This Week's New Music feat. Fuck Buttons, Tycho , High On Fire and more...

Welcome to my regular column, where I collect some of the finest music from the last seven days into one place. Amongst this week's tracks I have some soothing electronica to put you at ease and then some stoner metal to put you on edge. But first up I have what might be the most interesting combination of artists I've seen for a while...

Moby - The Perfect Life (with Wayne Coyne) (Fuck Buttons remix) Yeah, just let that title sink in for a moment. Those are three artists you never expected to be on the same release right? In all honesty I haven't been able to quite make my mind up on this remix, the original is great and this still keeps the upbeat gospel like celebratory refrain. Its definitely the least Fuck Buttons sounding release they've put out, though it at least has some of the triumphant strains that show up on their albums. The original track is taken from Moby's recent album Innocents which was out in September.

Tycho - Awake   Tycho rose to prominence in 2011 with his album Dive, full of lush and blissful electronica awash with analogue synths and reverbed guitar lines, though he has been honing his sound since 2002. The San Francisco-based graphic artist and musician's latest track sees that process continuing, with a subtle shift to guitars but there is still the same levels of layering and sonic detail on offer here. This track is taken from his forthcoming LP which will be out next year on Ghostly.

High on Fire - Slave the Hive Here's a little change in mood for you. This one-off track from the Stoner thrash metal veterans sees them on viscous form. Coming at you with an unrelenting tempo and ferocity, they are delivered with the low end fuzzy riffs and aggressive growls that you've come to expect from the band. Brutal but fun stuff. This one is available as a free download through Scion A/V with a limited edition 7-inch on offer at upcoming tour dates.

Madlib – Black Widow   Madlib, who in the past has worked with hip hop artists including J Dilla and MF Doom has released this new track from a forthcoming release of rock influenced creations from the production mastermind. The garage rock and proto-metal on offer here share the same kind of raw energy that has always graced his work as he jumps between tempo and rhythms with the assured ease. His new record, Rock Konducta Vol.1 is due out in December on Stones Throw.

Rival Consoles – Odyssey EP   Rival Consoles may seem out of place on his label home of Erased Tapes, shared with contemporary-classical artists like Nils Frahm and Peter Broderick (who adds his vocals to the EP), but his widescreen electronica seems to have a deep dynamic understanding and range that most producers just don't have and is more akin to a composer. His range is on offer from the carefully crafted ambience of Phillip to the intricate melodies of Voyager and the euphoric build of Odyssey amongst the stand out moments. The Odyssey EP will be released worldwide on October 21 on 12" Vinyl and Download through Erased Tapes.

These New Puritans – Attack Music(BBC 6 session)   This week on Marc Riley’s BBC 6Music radio These New Puritans played a reworked version of Attack music of their 2010 album Hidden. It loses some of the threat of violence of the original version, but still contains an unease more in line with their recent and rather brilliant classical inspired album Field of Reeds which came out earlier this year. Guest vocalist Elisa Rodrigues adds to the drama along with some harsh horns turning the song into a totally new beast.
